Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and new Management Team of Rivers Waste Management Agency

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have tasked the new management of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency to, as a matter of urgency, come up with a more innovative and efficient waste disposal method that will help restore Port Harcourt to its old garden city status and also generate wealth for the state.

One of the first tasks the governor wants the Agency to perform is to relocate the dump site along the Obiri Ikwerre Airport Road, saying that its location is an eyesore for Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Like many other growing cities, one of the problems facing Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital today, is waste management.

Authorities have to contend with handling the huge volume of waste generated daily by residents.

Their effort is made worse by residents who choose to dump their refuse in unauthorized places like street corners or right in the middle of the highway.

He wants to see a cleaner Port Harcourt.

One of the first things the governor wants the waste management team to do is relocate the dump site along the Obiri Ikwerre Airport Road.

He says he would not hesitate to send the team packing if there are no improvements in the state’s waste management system.

Aware of the huge task before them, members of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency are promising to live up to expectation.
