Wife of Nigerian President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu says the federal government remains committed to reducing HIV infections and preventing mother-to-child transmission of the virus

She said this during the North West flag-off of the Free to Shine campaign in Kaduna, an initiative aimed at eliminating HIV/AIDS, syphilis and hepatitis by 2030.

The Free to Shine campaign, led by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development, (OAFLAD), seeks to expand testing, treatment and awareness, particularly among women and children.

Nigeria bears the highest burden of HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, with over two million adults and 100,000 children affected.

Senator Tinubu emphasised the need for early testing, especially for infants, to curb transmission rates, and timely treatment.

Governor Uba Sani commended the First Lady’s leadership, and called for stronger policies at both state and federal levels, to combat HIV/AIDS, syphilis and hepatitis.
