Sokoto Govt empowers 500 more women under poverty reduction programme

SOKOTO

The Sokoto State Government has graduated another set of 500 women trainees under the state poverty reduction programme.

The trainees, drawn from across the state received training in leather and crafts, soap making, food and spices, tamowa production and hairdressing.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Gov. Adamu Aliyu said his administration remains determined to continue to train women and youths on various trades to make them self -reliant.

He said his administration has so far trained hundreds of youths in different skills through the ministries of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Welfare, Local Government Affairs as well as the Poverty reduction agency.

Gov. Aliyu said the effort is aimed at creating jobs, reducing youth restiveness , as well as checking idleness among the teeming youths in the state.

He said the empowerment programme is one of the cardinal objectives of his administration and called on all well-meaning citizens to rally round the administration to achieve said objectives.

He said plans were underway to train more youths in various skills

“This administration is working hard to create an enabling environment that would
fast-track economic growth through menial jobs, promote artisanship, and other skilled trades in the state”

“In order to create more job opportunities for our teaming unemployed youths in the state, we have recently procured 1000 motorcycles and 500 Tricycles, which were sold at subsidized rates.”

Gov. Aliyu urged graduates of the programme to utilize the tools and stipends given them wisely to enable them cater for the needs of their families.

Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa underscored the contribution of women to the economic growth of society, and called on the graduates to justify the confidence reposed in them.

A representative of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Lirwanu Belko applauded Gov. Aliyu’s youth empowerment strategy, which he said, would assist greatly in reducing crimes and criminality in the state.
