The Nigeria’s U-20 Male football team, the Flying Eagles, have gone on a short break following their two-match tour of Côte d’Ivoire last week.

The team, led by coach Aliyu Zubairu, arrived in Abuja on Saturday evening and were given a nine-day break before regrouping on March 10.

During their tour, the Flying Eagles recorded a 2-0 win over the Ivorian Young Elephants, with captain Daniel Bameyi and forward Divine Oliseh scoring the goals.

However, they lost the second match 2-0 to the hosts.

A statement on Monday from the Department of Information of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) disclosed that the team is preparing for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18.

Nigeria is grouped alongside Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco in Group B, with the top two teams advancing to the quarterfinals.

The Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will feature 13 teams, divided into three groups.

The top two teams from each group, as well as the best two third-placed teams, will qualify for the quarterfinals.

The four semifinalists will represent Africa at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

Coach Zubairu will be hoping to use the break to fine-tune his team’s preparations and strategy before the tournament.
