Kidnap suspect killed as Catholic Priest, Seminarian abducted in Edo

A man suspected to be part of a kidnap gang who kidnapped a priest and a seminarian at St Peters Catholic church Ivibukwa in Edo state has been killed.


This was made public through a press statement released by the Edo state police command.


The statement says the command received a distress call reporting armed men suspected to be herdsmen storming St. Peter Catholic Church in the Iviukhua community of Etsako East LGA and kidnapping Reverend Father Philip Ekeli and Seminarian Peter Andrew on Monday night.


The Police subsequently initiated a rescue operation involving vigilante groups and hunters and swiftly rushed to the scene and engaged the attackers in a gun duel where one of the suspects was killed,
Other suspects including thirty two year old Murtala Ibrahim, thirty one year old Joshua Joseph, thirty five year old Sadiq Sheidu and twenty eight year old Sunday Bulus were arrested.

Two pairs of rubber shoes, one button Tecno phone with 2 sim cards, One (1) power bank, one dagger jacket, a bag containing biscuits and beverages with the sum of one hundred and sixty-eight thousand , eight hundred and fifty naira was in the possession of the slain suspect.

State Police Commissioner Betty Otimenyin has detailed additional teams of the anti kidnapping unit to join forces with Police Mobile Force personnel alongside their military counterparts to ensure the release of the kidnapped persons and the capture of their abductors.
