Niger State to hold Local Council polls in November

NIGER

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has presented a timetable for the conduct of 2025 Local Council polls to hold in November to the representatives of all the political parties and stakeholders in the state, promising free, fair, and credible polls.

The commission’s chairman, Mohammed Jibrin, gave the assurance during the unveiling of the timetable at the Commission’s headquarters in Minna.

Jibrin promised a level playing ground to all political parties irrespective of other affiliations.

The state electoral body boss hinted that the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) register would be used to conduct the local council elections across the state.

The Chairman advised the political parties to work in compliance with the electoral and party guidelines and rules, revealing that there are modalities to monitor the conduct of primaries through NSIEC Electoral Officers across the 25 local councils.

Jibrin noted that the arrangement for the conduct of the polls has commenced from 6th Match 2025, pointing out that the elections of Chairmanship and Councillorship will be held tentatively on 1 November 2025.

He enjoined politicians, the electorate, aspirants, and candidates to conduct themselves according to the rules of the game to have a rancour-free at the grassroots polls in the state.

After a critical study of the presented timetable for the conduct of the local council polls, the stakeholders unanimously certified the timetable, and a motion was moved for the adoption and seconded.
