Tokyo 2020: Nigeria’s Olympic medalists get Federal Government cash rewards

The Ministry of Youths and Sports Development has fulfilled it’s promise to Nigerian athletes who won medals at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics as silver medalist Blessing Oborududu and bronze medalist Ese Brume received cash rewards of $10,000 and $7500, respectively .

Oborududu and Brume were presented their cash at a Tokyo hotel on Tuesday by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare.

The Minister said “There’s no point delaying the reinforcement of these athletes who have made the country proud, that is the reason they were rewarded immediately for their record breaking performance”

Oborududu, who is the first Nigerian Wrestler to win an Olympic medal said “I am just super excited and I want to say thank you to all my supporters and the Federal Government of Nigeria for the encouragement”


Chioma Ajunwa was the first person who won gold medal for Nigeria in the Long Jump event at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.
