The Acting Governor of Cross River State, Peter Odey, has distanced himself from a statement attributed to the South-South Governors’ Forum opposing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Fred Abua, the Acting Governor clarified that he was neither consulted nor involved in the forum’s position.
He emphasized that the Cross River State Government fully aligns with the President’s decision, describing it as necessary for national security, peace, and stability.

He further stated that protecting lives and property is a priority for any responsible government, and when circumstances demand decisive action, such measures should be supported in the interest of democracy and national unity.
Peter Odey reaffirmed Cross River State’s commitment to constitutional governance, and pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Government to maintain peace and stability across the country.
