Some forest communities of Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, have cried out over what they described as continuous destruction of their forest reserve at the detriment of their environment.

The three communities led by their village head, women, and youth leaders said over ten thousand hectares of the thirty-two thousand hectares of their natural forest have been destroyed by the loggers.
They called on the Federal and State Government to come to their aid, saying the destruction of the forest has exposed their communities to flooding and other environmental hazards
Others who spoke at the protest including women and youth representatives said despite the logging of their woods by people suspected to be having government appointees support, infrastructure deficit has been their challenge.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Afforestation, Biodiversity, and Conservation, Bette Obi, said, Government is doing everything possible to checkmate the illegality in the state forest.
