In a major step toward strengthening grassroots governance, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to full local government autonomy.

Speaking at an induction and training workshop for newly employed staff and senior officers of the Unified Local Government Service, the governor, represented by Acting Governor Peter Odey, emphasized that the state is set to experience true local government independence for the first time.

At the two-day training in Calabar, the Acting Governor declared that the administration remains resolute in its push for local government autonomy.

Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Darlington Bassey, reinforced the administration’s commitment to capacity building, highlighting that the training is designed to equip the new workforce with the skills and knowledge needed for effective governance.

The training, which had already been conducted in the Northern and Central Senatorial Districts, aims to instill a culture of professionalism and accountability in the civil service.

With this renewed drive for local government autonomy and workforce development, the Otu-led administration is taking decisive steps to strengthen governance at the grassroots.
