The perennial domestic water problem faced by residents of Abakaliki capital city, Ebonyi State may soon be addressed, going by the assessments of the State Governor, Francis Nwifuru.

Nwifuru spoke shortly after an unscheduled inspection visit to the ongoing water project site, as well as the multiple route Vanco roundabout flyover bridge and tunnel construction site, in the city centre.

AIT Online Correspondent reports that it was a busy first day of the week on Monday, outside of the office for Governor Francis Nwifuru as he went on unscheduled visits to project sites, a practice that has become a trademark of the governor.

This time, Nwifuru was at the low lift water scheme site, behind the CAS campus of the Ebonyi State University in Abakaliki.

He appeared impressed with the progress of work, and assured residents that the challenges of lack of access to portable water will soon be a thing of the past.

This statement underscores the importance Governor Nwifuru attaches to portable water supply as an essential, to every household in the State.

At the Saint Vincent Nwankwo twin flyover bridge, popularly known as Vanco roundabout, the Governor told Journalists that the ongoing complex structural engineering work was beginning to take shape, and will soon become better appreciated by lay people.

He noted that the twin flyover bridge and underground tunnel will address the high traffic congestions experienced by residents, improve economic lives of the people and increase the aesthetic beauty of Abakaliki, thereby attracting more tourists to the capital city.

Some of the people doing business around the construction site area spoke of the importance of the project to the economic well-being of the residents and it’s potential to attract investments to the city, just as they expect an early completion of the signature project of the current administration in the State.

Governor Nwifuru at the project inspection site interfaced briefly with the Ambassador of Norway, Svein Bæra who is in the State to have first-hand information on the achievements made by the Governor Francis Nwifuru administration in Ebonyi State.
