The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has advised Federal and State Governments to fund existing universities before establishing new ones. The new President of the Union, Victor Osodeke, said this in Ilorin the Kwara State capital during an interactive session with reporters.
Osodeke maintained that ASUU believes that the establishment of new varsities, federal, state, and private should be well conceptualized on sound logic saying it is inappropriate to establish new universities when the existing ones are grossly neglected by their owners adding that state universities should be barred from accessing TETFUND assistance.

Speaking on the state of the nation, the ASUU President also noted that lack of access to good education remains the root cause of insecurity and open killings across the country challenging government to fix the bad roads before introducing toll fare.
Osodeke, however, challenged the federal government to fulfill its agreement with the union before the end of August failure to do so will result in another industrial action that may collapse the education system in the country.
ASUU as a union strongly believes in the use of qualitative education to liberate and transform Nigeria from its current state of underdevelopment if properly harnessed.
