Inadequate toilet facilities, lack of good portable water, and poor sanitation exercise have been identified as some of the factors responsible for the outbreak of cholera in Kebbi State.

The Emir of Argungu, Samaila Mera, disclosed this at a sensitisation campaign by the Kebbi State Ministry of Health as part of efforts to curtail the spread of cholera.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Jafar Muhammad, explained that the sensitisation programme would be replicated in all the local government areas of the state.

Muhammad hinted that the people would also be sensitised on the preventive measures, which include hand washing before and after a meal, implications of open defecation, and the elimination of contaminated food and water.

He also advised the citizens to avoid direct contact with the affected people.
