Following the statement by Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State to the citizens to take up arms and defend themselves against bandits, the Katsina State chapter of the Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, said the patriotic statement merely succeeded in exposing the weakness and inability of the government to discharge its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property of its people.

The group is however calling on the governor and his cabinet to honorably resign since they cannot protect the lives and property of their people.

In a statement signed by the Northwest Coordinator of the group, Jamilu Charanchi, he said that the present administration is certainly inept at combating the threat, posed by the adventurous crimes of banditry and kidnapping in the state.

According to him, virtually the entire state is gradually turning into a house of horror, with the continuing killings in Batsari, Jibia, Danmusa, Safana, Kankara, Sabuwa, Faskari, and Dandume, among others.

Charanchi also said that the group has studied the statement carefully, resolved among others, that they salute the courage of Governor Masari for telling his people the reality on the ground, and he will forever be remembered for that.

The group also called on all stakeholders to strengthen the activities of the vigilantes in the state, as well as politicians and well-meaning individuals, to mobilize resources for the running of their activities and purchase of equipment.

While condemning the activities of informants, the group also calls on all well-meaning citizens, to report any suspicious movements to appropriate authorities.
