Director-General Media to the Governor, Abdu Labaran, has described the calls in some quarters for Governor Aminu Masari to resign over his self-defence statement to the people of Katsina as absurd.
Labaran, who was reacting to the calls by the Coalition of Northern Groups and the state Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Salisu Majigiri, on the Governor to resign, said constitutionally elected office-holders, like a governor, do not succumb to the intimidation of some self-serving disgruntled elements, masquerading as human rights campaigners.
He further added that security is on the exclusive list of the Nigerian Constitution, stressing that, it means it is exclusively a Federal Government affair.
He maintained that a governor is the Chief Security Officer of his state ONLY in name, because the various security chiefs working in the state, take orders from their superiors in Abuja and not from him.

The Director-General also said, Masari is not the first governor to make such pronouncements and as such, the Nigerian constitution has provided the protocols for easing them out of office, and no house of assembly is in the dark about that.
Labaran also stated that Masari’s dogged commitment to the fight against banditry made his colleagues from the Northwest states, make him the chairman of their security committee, adding it only takes a sincere and courageous leader to tell his people to wake up and resist the bandits,
