Despite the cancellation of the Sit-at-home protest initiated by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, most residents of Abakaliki, in Ebonyi State, this Monday, stayed off their places of work and businesses.

Major roads and streets in some parts of the city witnessed low traffic, with most shops in the state’s main market, as well as banks and fuel stations, remaining shut.

Sampson Eze, a journalist in Abakaliki told AIT that the factors responsible for the continued compliance of the Sit-at-home order in the state are ignorance of the suspension of the action and the fear of uncertainties.

The situation, with its crippling effect on the economy, has become a source of worry and concern to the elites, as the Governor, Dave Umahi, last week, called on all stakeholders in the South-east Geopolitical Zone, to rise in condemnation of the action.

Meanwhile, as a way to confirming their preparedness and commitment to continuous protection of lives and property of the people, the Ebonyi State Police Command and other security agencies, have intensified their statewide patrols.
