The need for the National Boundaries Commission and other relevant authorities to make concerted efforts towards securing national and international boundary communities along the coastlines of Bayelsa state from waterway crimes and erosion has been emphasised.
This was the submission of participants including the Bayelsa state Governor, Douye Diri at a report of a consultative meeting with stakeholders on the development of National Boarders policy in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Bayelsa state is made up of eight local council areas with four identified as having boarder communities with international boundaries.
They include; Brass, Nembe, Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw local government areas.

The problems of waterway crimes and constant depletion of land by erosion are major problems which natives of these communities contend with on daily basis.
The meeting with key players on the development of national boarders is geared towards getting inputs from the people in a bid to address these challenges
Governor Douye Diri represented by his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, used the medium to remind the national Boundaries commission of the urgent need to settle the boundary disputes between Bayelsa and Rivers state.
It is however the desire of these community leaders who are representing their people at the meeting, that their inputs will be captured in the report and succor will be brought to them in earnest.
