About 1,000 housing units have been handed over to Borno State, by the Federal Government for distribution to Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs), in Ngwom village, of Mafa Local Government Area.
The houses, constructed through the North East Development Commission, (NEDC), were part of the 10,000 Housing Scheme, initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The North-East Development Commission, NEDC’s Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali said, President Buhari in 2019, had approved mass housing, under the Special Presidential Intervention, in Borno, SPIB.
The SPIB was designed to provide decent accommodation, to ameliorate the housing difficulties, being experienced by displaced communities, in Borno State
The 1,000 houses consist of blocks of four units of two-bedroom bungalows with veranda and courtyards in clusters arrangement.
Each block sits on 400 square metres, with a perimeter fence, and ample space, for other home activities.
Also provided are, solar-powered street lights and boreholes, over 3,000 economic trees, as well as school, market, police station and motor park.
The Board Chairman of the Commission retired Major.-Genenral. Paul Tarfa, and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Special Duties, Senator Yusuf A Yusuf, in their separate remarks, described the occasion as historic.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouq, reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to provide shelter and empowerment opportunities, for the rural populace.
Apart from the housing project, the Commission would also inaugurate other projects, including the graduation of 218 ICT graduates, and the distribution of food items.
Others were the handing over of the newly constructed Burn Centre, at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the foundation laying of a 300-seater capacity auditorium, at the Centre for the Study of Violent Extremism, at the University of Maiduguri.
Governor Babagana Zulum, lauded the Federal Government for its support, which he said, would fast track, dignified resettlement of the IDPs
