The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, is calling on the government to hold a security stakeholders summit, which where the citizens can come up with real suggestions on how to tackle the variety of security challenges.
The call follows the expiration of the two-week ultimatum the association gave to the government to provide security in and around health facilities across Zamfara State to prevent health workers from being attacked or kidnapped.

At a media briefing in Gusau, NMA chairman, Mannir Baturen raised concerns over the negative impact of banditry on the economic, social, and political life of the people.
He said that health facilities are important centres that need to be secure enough for both patients and health workers.
Bandits invaded the Dansadau General Hospital in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State a few weeks ago and abducted a health attendant and caregiver.
This prompted the Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association to draw the attention of the government on the need to provide adequate security to health facilities in the state by issuing the ultimatum.
