Police in Katsina State say it has intercepted a trailer load of 80 animals being conveyed from Zamfara to Abuja and arrested 3 suspects who are said to be suspected bandits’ informants and cattle rustlers accompanying it.

The spokesman of the command, Superintendent of Police Gambo Isah, who said this while parading the suspects alongside 25 others said, their offences contravene the recent Executive Order banning interstate cattle transportation to restore law and order, signed by Governor Aminu Masari.

Isah also said the command arrested 32-year-old Auwal Aliyu, whom he described as a suspected fugitive, a notorious bandit on the wanted list of the police and Batsari community for various crimes, bordering on banditry.

Isah announced that the three suspected bandits’ informants were arrested between Katsina and Zamfara border while conveying eighty domestic animals on a canter lorry to Abuja, which violates the recently signed security challenges containment order by the Governor.

Similarly, as part of the enforcement of the law, the command also arrested 17 suspects for violating the order by officers on patrol and shut down Kankara-Scheme road in the Dutsinma Local Government Area of the State.

Isah further said, suspected Auwal Aliyu was arrested with a vigilante uniform of the rank of a Superintendent, saying, he is alleged to be a bandits’ informant, who escaped from Niger State as a result of the ongoing onslaught against the bandits.

The suspect has however denied the allegation, saying that he is a traditional medicine seller, but could not explain how he came about the uniform.

Other arrests include three suspected informants who are residents of Wanzamai village, located at Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, 4 suspected thieves arrested for vandalising transformers in Kaita Local Government Area, and Mahuta village of Dandume Local Government Area of the state.

The rests are two suspected bandits’ informants and suppliers of fuel to bandits.

They were caught conveying two drums fully loaded with fuel in a vehicle.

The police image maker said investigations are on, and all suspects will be charged to court with the various evidence at their disposal.
