Governors from the Southern regions of Nigeria have ended a meeting in Enugu, South East of the country, with a resolution to support the position that individual states should be responsible for the collection of Value Added Tax, VAT, in their respective states.
This was one of the key decisions contained in a communique issued at the end of the meeting.
The governor of the South-Western State of Ondo and Chairman of the Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu, explained that the decision will guarantee true fiscal federalism in the country.
The Governors called for the full operationalization of the regional security outfits with shared intelligence and collaborations, insisting it is the best for the security of the region.

On the anti Open Grazing laws, the Forum urged member states yet to conclude actions, to fast track the process, in the interest of their people and regional harmony.
The Southern Governors Forum equally re-echoed its previous resolution, that the 2023 presidential position be allotted to the Southern divide of Nigeria.
Sixteen of the seventeen states in the region attended the meeting, with only Anambra absenting.
The next meeting of the Forum is to take place in Rivers State, South-South Nigeria, in November 2021.
