The Journalism Profession has been described as a pillar without which democracy will not thrive.
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, made these remarks at a one-day leadership mentoring workshop, for the Executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Chapels of AIT, NTA, Radio Nigeria and the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja.

He lamented that despite the importance of journalists in society, they are among the least paid with lesser welfare packages.
Wabba gave the assurances of the NLC to assist the NUJ in negotiating for better welfare for journalists in the country.
