President Tinubu Appoints Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe as NHIA Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority.

CAPTION: A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga stated that Dr. Oloriegbe a former senator representing Kwara Central in the 9th National Assembly, will serve an initial four-year term, effective from March 11, 2025.

A trained medical professional, Dr. Oloriegbe holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris.

He is a member of several medical associations, including the Nigerian Medical Association, Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, and the International AIDS Society .

During his tenure in the Senate from 2019 to 2023, Dr. Oloriegbe served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and also led the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health, playing a key role in health sector legislation and policy formulation.

His appointment comes as the Tinubu administration seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s health insurance framework and expand healthcare coverage for citizens.
