The Court of Appeal sitting in Jos has dismissed the application filed by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to stop Saturday’s Local Government elections in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria over its exclusion from the polls.

The PDP earlier lost its bid to stop the local council elections at the Plateau State High Court which uphold the decision of Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission to exclude the party from the polls.

The PDP was excluded from Saturday’s Local Government elections on the grounds that the nomination forms of its candidates for chairmanship and councillorship positions were signed by the State Caretaker Chairman following leadership crisis in Plateau State chapter of the party.

The recent congresses held by PDP however led to the emergence of substantive Chairman and other officials in Plateau State after protracted leadership crisis. The election nomination forms had already been submitted before the party’s congresses.

The PDP National Working Committee under the suspended National Chairman, Uche Secondus imposed a Caretaker Committee on the Plateau State Chapter with members drawn from other states.
