The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo has said that he will be appealing the judgement of the Justice Wilfred Kpochi led tribunal which affirmed Senator Monday Okpebholo as Governor this Wednesday.

Asue Ighodalo who made this known in a statement made available to journalists reiterated his conviction that the rule of law remains the bedrock of Nigeria’s democracy and that his pursuit of justice in this regard is an affirmation of the firm belief that the right of Edo people to freely choose their leaders through a credible, free and fair electoral process must never be compromised.

He noted his respect for the judiciary as the last hope of the common man, and urged the people to remain peaceful, calm and law-abiding in the aftermath of the Judgement.

Ighodalo said he has instructed his legal team to proceed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the decision which they consider as a huge travesty of justice.

He added that the decision is not about him or any single individual but about the very essence of democracy, the preservation of the people’s collective right to freely determine their future, and the legacy to be left for generations unborn.
