The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has said that it is ready to block the influx of drugs into the country, to contribute to the fight against banditry and insurgency.

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (Rtd), said this at the graduation of NDLEA Counter-Terrorism Course I, 2021 in Jaji, Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria.

He said the war against drug abuse and trafficking must be won even though at least 15 million Nigerians are involved in the use of drugs.

So far, about 188 personnel of the Agency have lost their lives on the line of duty, in the fight against drug trafficking.

To curtail drug abuse and trafficking, the NDLEA has trained 143 personnel at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, NASI, on counter-terrorism, to accomplish more complex challenges, that characterise the drug world.

The Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Infantry, NASI, Major-General Gadzama Ali, said the activities of drug barons over the years, have continued to threaten the security of the country, hence, NASI’s support for the NDLEA, by training its personnel.

Marwa said, the drug scourge in the country is unacceptable and warned drug barons to desist from the act of peddling drugs or face the full weight of the law.

The course assembled on the 11th of October at the Special Warfare Wing of NASI, and the personnel were trained on weapons handling, house clearing and rescue operations.
