The leadership of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-teaching Staff Unions of the University of Benin on Wednesday joined their counterparts across the country on a three-day protest against the federal government’s proposed sharing formula of over twenty-two billion naira approved as payment of earned allowances for universities staff which gives the academic staff seventy-five percent while the other three unions share twenty-five percent.
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Unions, NASU say the protest is to let the government know that the proposed sharing formula is unacceptable to them and if not addressed will lead to indefinite strike action by SANNU and NASU.

Members of the University of Benin chapter of the protesting unions marched around the premises of the institution and to the Vice Chancellor’s office to submit their protest letter.

The unions say if the federal government fails to address the disparity in the sharing formula after the three-day warning protest, SANNU and NASU will embark on industrial action.

They say the protest will continue till Friday.
