At least two passengers, including a nine month old baby girl and an adult female, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, reportedly lost their lives on Sunday after a bus in which they were traveling crashed in Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria.

The accident was said to have occurred at a sharp corner at the Uduma Junction axis along the highway in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area.

According to eye witnesses, the bus which was conveying about 25 passengers, including children, lost control and collided with another vehicle while navigating the bend at high speed, somersaulting several times.

An official source at the Hospital where the injured patients are receiving treatment said 23 passengers sustained serious injuries, ranging from crush hand injuries, fractures, lacerations, and severe traumatic brain injuries.

Some 18 patients, including the driver, are receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency department, the Surgical Ward and Intensive Care Unit of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, DUFUTH.

The hospital management has expressed sadness over the incident and assured the public that everything possible is being done to ensure the injured receive the best medical care.
