Bandits kill 2 police officers, lose 2 fighters in gun duel in Katsina

Two police personnel in Katsina State, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Yakubu Joshua, and a sergeant, Zaharadeen Yuguda have lost their lives in a gun duel, while repelling bandits’ attack on Baure Village in Safana Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, confirmed this while briefing newsman.

He also added that 2 of the bandits were gunned down, as well as the capture of some arms and ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police, said the incident occurred when the Area Commander of Dutsinma, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aminu Umar, led a combined team of policemen and vigilante to a bandits’ hideout at Baure Village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel.

According to him, the team succeeded in dislodging the bandits, killed two of them, while 2 officers were also gunned down in the process.

Buba gave the names of the officers as Assistant Superintendent of Police Yakubu Joshua, attached to 27 Police Mobile Force, and Sergent Zaharadeen Yuguda, attached to Safana Division.

In the course of scanning the scene, one AK 47 rifle with 35 rounds of 7.62 millimetres live ammunition was captured, as well as two unregistered motorcycles, Kasea and Boxer, including a vest of charms, were also recovered.

He assured members of the public that his command remains resolute and committed in the ongoing fight against recalcitrant bandits until they are arrested and dealt with.
