The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers in the Federal capital territory, Stephen Nabayi says contrary to reports by a section of the media, primary and secondary school teachers remain on strike.

In a text message sent exclusively to Ait’s Abulu Osemuaghu on Sunday, November 21, the NUT FCT Chairman says
Strike continues tomorrow Monday untill Wednesday, November 24, when the union is expected to make a definite statement.

Nabayi in the text message to Ait adds that the FCT administration has been paying lip service to its demands, which include non payment of salary arrears from 2015, non implementation of the consequential adjustment of the National Minimum wage and rising insecurity in schools among others.

The teachers began a 5-day warning strike on Friday, despite a high powered meeting between its officials and Federal Capital Territory Administration, led by the minister, Mohammed Musa Bello and the permanent secretary, Adesola Olusade.

The NUT leadership had told journalists it would meet to discuss the resolutions at the meeting with the FCT officials.

The ongoing 5-day warning strike appears to be the outcome of NUT officials meeting as students and pupils were asked to leave the school compound early on Friday.
