The Nigerian Correctional Service says gunmen who invaded the Jos Medium Security Custodial Centre in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria have been trapped within the facility due to the heavy firepower of security operatives who immediately cordoned the yard.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Francis Enobore, the invaders were said to have arrived at the Custodial Centre at about 5:20 pm on Sunday and immediately made for the main gate where they engaged the armed squad personnel in a gun battle before breaking into the yard.
Enobore also said the situation is presently under control as the firing power of the attackers is being subdued by superior firepower from a combined team of security agencies.
