Aggrieved workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) have called off their indefinite strike following the Federal government’s intervention.

The development comes after a closed door meeting held by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo and other Aviation Agencies in Abuja.

The Aviation union workers in Nigeria had on Wednesday, commenced an indefinite strike over welfare issues, including NiMet’s refusal to negotiate or implement agreed financial allowances and unresolved entitlements, as well as wage awards, peculiar allowances, and outstanding payments from the 2019 Minimum wage.

The workers had also accused NIMET of withholding important documents, ignoring requests for inclusion of omitted staff in past payments, and neglecting key training programmes in favour of Executive retreats.

The strike which was one day old had forced many Airlines including international operators to ground their aircrafts over non-availability of a weather forecast report.

Some who were seen operating on Wednesday, were said to have used Tuesday’s report, which experts said expired after 47 hours, while others relied on their Company’s experts for the weather WHILE OTHERS RELIED prediction.

One of Nigeria’s leading airline, Airpeace had on Wednesday issued a statement informing the public of the suspension of its flight operations due to safety concerns arising from the Aviation workers strike

Details of the agreement reached betwee the Federal government and the striking Aviation workers are yet to be revealed.
