Police say they have discovered that private motorcycles have been turned into commercial operations at night as the enforcement of the Executive Order restricting movements of motorcycles and tricycles from 6pm to 6am continues in Minna, the Niger State capital
Three days after the commencement of the enforcement of the order, which began from Wednesday, April 23 to Saturday, April 26, the police say a total of 56 tricycles and 94 motorcycles have been impounded so far.
State Command spokesperson, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, in a statement, also confirmed that some persons are using private motorcycles to do skeletal commercial activities at night.
Abiodun, therefore, declared that following the development, any private motorcycle operator who cannot give a satisfactory account of himself with proper identification as staff of an organisation, coming from work or any other important reason may be impounded.
The police further urged motorcyclists and tricyclists to be law-abiding pending further directives from the State Government, as the temporary measure is yielding positive results. This follows the eradication of phone snatching and other robberies in Minna metropolis.
