South Korea’s interim president, Han Duck Soo has resigned to enable him contest June’s Presidential election.
The former prime minister, one of two politicians who had stepped in following parliament’s impeachment of erstwhile president, Yoon Suk Yeol, said he hopes to deepen democratic reforms and improve the South Korean economy.

The 75- year old former diplomat who holds a doctorate degree from Harvard intends to run as an independent candidate.
He will face the Democratic Party’s Lee Jae-myung in the election which is being held early following the Constitutional Court’s affirmation of Yool’s impeachment due to his declaration of martial law last year.
