Ondo state in South West Nigeria may soon be faced with food shortage and scarcity.

This is because about one thousand hectares of Land being used for agriculture by atleast ten thousand farmers in Odigbo Local Government area of the state is being threatened with demolition and destruction by officials of the State Government

AIT’s Olusola Adesuyan who covered the protest of the farmers on the Benin/Ore highway against the said planned demolition.

The farmers are protesting the alleged sale of their farm-land, the land which they pay rent yearly to the state government for their farming activities.

The over ten thousand farmers whose protest caused slow vehicular movement on the ever busy Ore/Benin highway, lamented the consequences of the forceful takeover and eviction from the farmland which they say would worsen their condition as farmers in the state.

The farmers who said the destruction of their crops is illegal and against a court order restraining the government from evicting them.

Efforts to get the comments of the Senior special assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on agriculture and Agro business, Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, proved abortive on Sunday at the time of filing the report.
