The Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital is to be henceforth known as the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, following the official handing over of the health facility to the Federal Ministry of Health after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Abuja.

The handing over of the hospital to the Federal Government is aimed at bringing quality healthcare closer to the people of Nasarawa State.

Governor Abdullahi Sule during the signing of the MoU said the transition of the health facility to a Teaching hospital comes with numerous socioeconomic benefits.

The Nasarawa State Governor emphasized the need to strengthen the diagnostic capacity of the hospital through the effective utilization of the Research and Diagnostic centre, also in Lafia, for the production of vaccines.

Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate described the transition of the hospital as another example of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to healthcare development in the country

The Minister said with its new status, the Teaching hospital will be a hub for research, teaching and other key features that go with a modern day tertiary healthcare facility.

Other key figures at the signing of the agreement were the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Gaza Gwamma and the Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital, Dr Ikrama Hassan.
