In a twist to ongoing developments within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike made a surprise appearance at the party’s high-stakes expanded Governors’ Forum meeting in Abuja.
His appearance marks his first attendance of a PDP function in months amid heightened tensions and defections rocking the opposition Party.

Wike’s presence was particularly striking given his central role in the breakaway G5 faction and his continuous alignment with the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu. His alignment with the APC has raised questions about his loyalty to the PDP and fueled rumours of his instigation of crisis in the party and eventual defection of high-ranking members.

In the past few months, the PDP has been enmeshed in serious crisis that some key members including Delta Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori along with members of his cabinet, State House of Assembly lawmakers, National Assembly members and the party structure defected to the APC using the crisis as an excuse.
