The People’s Democratic Party, PDP has inaugurated some of the newly appointed state and zonal nominees to its Board of Trustees (BoT).
This development represents a significant step in the party’s efforts to revitalise its internal structures and foster unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration took place amid ongoing efforts to address internal challenges, including leadership disputes and inactive membership.
Reports revealed that 85 of the 127 previous BoT members had become inactive, necessitating the revitalisation of the key advisory body.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara addressed attendees at the event, declaring that the PDP will never die, a statement highlighting the party’s determination to overcome its challenges and remain a dominant force in Nigerian politics.
Wabara also spoke about the party ’s resilience and unwavering commitment to its objectives.
The formal ceremony which took place at the National Executive Committee, NEC Hall at PDP’s National Headquarters, Abuja saw the swearing in of new BoT members nominated by state and zonal caucuses in accordance with the PDP Constitution (2017) as amended.
The nominees, drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with at least two women from each zone, as well as one representative from every state and the Federal Capital Territory, are recognised for their notable contributions to the party.

Prominent figures in attendance include BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, former Presidential Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, Senator Ben Ndi Obi, Senator Zainab Kure, Acting National Secretary, former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, Setonji Kosheodo, representing the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyegikuro; Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor and the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
In his speech, the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, represented by Acting National Secretary, Setonji Kosheodo, highlighted the pivotal role of the BoT, saying proceedings are conducted in accordance with the PDP Constitution, particularly Sections 31(5) and 32(1), which define the composition and responsibilities of the BoT.
The newly inducted members are expected to play crucial roles in tackling issues such as defections and disputes over strategic positions, including that of the National Secretary.
