The Federal Government has approved the Group Life Insurance Scheme for federal public servants.
The Head of Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, Said this in Abuja during an interview with State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation.
She says the scheme provides a life policy for each public servant, ensuring their next of kin receives a benefit in the event of death to help cushion the family’s loss.
The scheme covers key government officials, including the President, Vice President, ministers, and staff of federal ministries and agencies. It also includes para military agencies such as the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The policy is valid for 12 months, commencing from the date of payment of premium to underwriters.
She explained that Seventeen insurance underwriters have been appointed for the 2025/2026 policy year.
The Head of Service of the Federation noted that despite the policy’s existence in previous administrations, many public servants are unaware of it. To address this, a sensitization program will be conducted soon to inform public servants about the policy.
