Healthcare: RSUTH Launches Facility To Produce Blood Components

The Rivers state University teaching hospital now has a facility to produce blood components and blood products such as red blood cells plasma to cater to the needs of patients in the South South Region, Nigeria and sub Sahara

The chief medical director of RSUTH, Prof Chinzindu Alikor, said this during a one day capacity building programme in Port Harcourt, for healthcare professionals in collaboration with the National blood services with the theme “blood component therapy services;the right blood for the right patients

components blood therapy involves transfusing specific blood components such as red blood cells,platelets, and plasma rather than whole blood to treat various medical conditions

The chief medical director of the Rivers state University teaching hospital, Prof chinzindu Alikor, says the Investment in the component blood therapy is to help cater for those in need in the South South region and sub Sahara Africa.

A consultant of haematology at the institution, Prof kaladada korubo, emphasized the significance of the blood component therapy in the healthcare services

Authorities of the Rivers state University teaching hospital promised to collaborate with the national blood services to ensure that the right blood is provided for the right patients to help improve patients’ outcomes and contribute to the advancement of transfusion medicine in the region and beyond.
