Senate Sets Up 20-Member Ad-hoc Committee for National Security Summit

The Nigerian Senate has constituted a 20-member ad-hoc Committee to plan and coordinate a proposed National Security Summit, aimed at addressing the growing insecurity across the country.

The Committee is chaired by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), with Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC, Kebbi North) serving as Vice Chairman.

The Committee is tasked with organizing a 2-day summit that will bring together key stakeholders to develop actionable strategies to combat the rising wave of killings, kidnappings, and other security challenges nationwide.

Members of the Committee include;

•   Ireti Kingibe (LP, FCT)

•   Idiat Adebule (APC, Lagos West)

•   Mpigi Barinada (PDP, Rivers South East)

•   Babangida Huseni (APC, Jigawa North West)

•   Jimoh Ibrahim (APC, Ondo South)

•   Osita Ngwu (PDP, Enugu West)

•   Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North)

•   Titus Zam (APC, Benue North West)

•   Ahmed Lawan (APC, Yobe North)

•   Abdulaziz Musa Yaradua (APC, Katsina Central)

•   Gbenga Daniel (APC, Ogun East)

•   Austin Akobundu (PDP, Abia Central)

•   Shehu Buba (APC, Bauchi South)

•   Maidori Ahmed (APC, Jigawa North East)

•   Emmanuel Udende (APC, Benue North East)

•   Adams Oshiomhole (APC, Edo North)

•   Salisu Afolabi (APC, Ogun Central)

•   Isah Jibrin (APC, Kogi East)

The Committee is expected to report back to the Senate within two weeks with details on the summit’s structure and expected outcomes.

The summit, according to Senate leadership, is a critical step towards finding a lasting solution to Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.
