Yemi Adebayo of AIT Selected for MTN Nigeria’s Media Innovation Programme

Yemi Adebayo, an award-winning journalist from Africa Independent Television (AIT), has been selected as one of the fellows for the fourth edition of MTN Nigeria’s Media Innovation Programme (MIP).

This programme, run by the School of Media and Communication at Pan-Atlantic University, aims to equip media practitioners with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly changing media landscape.

The fellowship, which started on May 19, 2025, and will run for six weeks spread across six months, is fully funded by MTN Nigeria.

Yemi Adebayo is among 20 outstanding media professionals selected from over 3,000 applications.

The programme includes academic sessions, field visits, and practical projects, as well as a study trip to the University of Johannesburg and engagements with key stakeholders in the South African government, business, and media sectors.

This initiative is designed to spark innovation in the media space by providing journalists and content creators with the tools, exposure, and network to excel in a fast-evolving digital landscape.

By participating in this programme, Yemi Adebayo and other fellows will gain valuable insights and skills to enhance their storytelling and media practices.

Other fellows selected for the programme include Adaku Onyenucheya of The Guardian, Adebayo Adeyemi Michael of the Africa Independent Television (AIT), Adebayo Abolaji of New Telegraph, Chinwe Michael of BusinessDay, Precious Igbonwelundu of The Nation, and Royal Ibeh of Leadership Newspapers. Others are Adekeye Ayobami of ADAMIM ‘O’ GO 93.1 FM, Amarachi Ubani of Channels Television, Blessings Mosugu of News Central TV, Georgina Ndukwe-Ezeanyika of Arise News, Precious David-Ogaga of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Tega Onojaife of Smooth 98.1 FM, Vanessa Richard-Bassey of Sparkling 92.3 FM, and Zainab Adam of SMK Radio 96.5 FM. In addition, As a digital content creator, were other selected participants.

Speaking on the initiative, Tobe Okigbo, chief corporate services and sustainability officer of MTN Nigeria, said the MIP was created to spark innovation in the media space by equipping journalists and content creators with the tools, exposure and network to thrive in a fast-evolving digital landscape.

Yemi Adebayo currently serves as the State House Correspondent for AIT and a Business News Editor.

He also covers the Energy and Power beats. He is also an active member of various professional organizations, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
