Climate Change: Albinos advised to protect themselves against Severe Weather

Persons living with Albinism have been advised to protect themselves from the harmful effects of ultra violet rays due to the deteriorating weather conditions emanating from climate change.

The advise was given at an advocacy seminar on climate change and the burden of skin cancer on persons with Albinism held in Benin city.

The extreme hot weather being experienced in parts of the world no doubt is a big threat to the life of persons living with albinism as they continue to battle with other effects of climate change.

A medical expert and an Abinism advocacy group, at a seminar in Benin city are creating awareness on the harmful effect of climate change saying that people living with Albinism find it difficult adapting to the hot weather due to the harmful ultraviolet rays produced by the sun.

Noting the vulnerability of Albinos to skin ulcers, cancer and other ailments due to weather conditions, the advocacy group and people with the condition are calling on government to adopt environmental friendly policies to help salvage the increasing rise in global temperatures while also seeking positive efforts towards protecting persons living with albinism.

As the advocacy group continue to place emphasis on the use of sunscreen agents of up to 50 SPF as protection from the sun for Albinos , they however want support from the government and other well-meaning Nigerians in this regard.
