Suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his private residence in Lagos.
The meeting which was held behind closed doors, marks the first official engagement between the two leaders since Fubara’s suspension and the imposition of emergency rule in Rivers State earlier this year.
There was a report in April that Siminalayi Fubara met President Tinubu in London in April 2025. It was understood that the meeting was at the instance of Fubara
Fubara’s suspension, which was announced by President Tinubu on March 18, 2025, cited escalating insecurity and governance breakdown in the state as the reasons for the intervention.

Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (rtd) was appointed as the state’s administrator for an initial six-month period.
According to sources close to the presidency, the meeting focused on defusing the political crisis and negotiating terms for Fubara’s potential return to office before the six-month suspension ends.
The Rivers crisis remains deeply intertwined with the rivalry between Fubara and his former political mentor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Although Fubara recently claimed to have reconciled with Wike, the latter stated he was not consulted before the emergency rule was imposed and would not have supported it if asked.
