The Recording Academy led by its Chief Executive Officer Harvey Mason Jr. has inducted the late Nigerian afrobeat legend and social crusader Fela Anikulapo-Kuti into its 2025 Grammy Hall of Fame for his classical album “Zombie”.

Harvey Mason Jr. and the President/CEO of the Grammy Museum Michael Sticka made this known on the official “X” handle of the academy.

The Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and Afrika 70 album “Zombie” which was released in Nigeria in 1976 by Coconut Records addresses societal ills.

Though Fela the “Abami Eda” as he is fondly called was posthumously nominated for the Grammy Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 he did not make the final list of inductees.

In appreciation of the late musician’s induction his first son afrobeat singer Femi Kuti has taken to his Instagram to thank the recording academy.

“Our father’s legacy lives on 🙏🏾💫 We are honoured to accept this Grammy Hall of Fame award on behalf of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. His music continues to inspire & unite people across the world 🌎#Grammy”.
