The need for electoral reforms that will allow for free, fair and transparent elections in Nigeria has been reiterated by members of the Inter-party Advisory Council IPAC in Rivers State.

The call was made during a symposium as part of activities marking this year’s celebration of Democracy Day where they extolled the political virtues of the late Icon of Modern Democracy Moshood Kashimawo Abiola.

Members of different political parties, the traditional institution as well as members of the general public attended the symposium to re-evaluate the gains of Democracy since the annulment of the Nineteen ninety three general elections which is still adjudged the most credible in the Nation’s political history.

During the symposium they gave insight on the travails of true Democracy and those who subscribe to it since that interference by the military administration in what was designed to be a democratic election.

While they berate what has been going on since the beginning of the fourth republic they appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the electoral umpire to avail Nigerians an opportunity to witness another election that will be as credible as that of nineteen ninety three.

Participants expressed hope that the Nation’s electoral process that was once adjudged transparent can still be reinvented if only the ruling party will create an atmosphere for the electoral umpire to function as an independent body.
