The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kebbi says, it has arrested 121 suspected drug dealers, and seized 270.253 kg of illicit drugs, between January and June this year in the state.

The State’s Commander, Rabi’u Abdullahi-Sokoto, made this known, at the grand finale of this year’s United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse, and Illicit Trafficking, in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the achievements for this year so far, from January to June, are that we have been able to arrest 121 suspects, comprising 116 males and five females.

However, the command seized 214.737 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and 55.516 kilograms of psychotropics, totaling 270.253 kilograms.

Abdullahi-Sokoto, added that the agency rehabilitated 27 persons, while 24 drug offenders had been convicted to various jail terms, during the period under review.

He says, drug menace is a global problem, and the situation remains challenging. “We, therefore, cannot afford to be complacent and watch the hydra-headed monster ravage our families, communities, and society at large.

The theme for this year’s celebration is, “Evidence is Clear, Invest in Prevention,” which emphasizes the importance of a prevention-oriented approach to reduce illicit drug use in society.
