There is confusion regarding the People’s Democratic Party’s National Executive Committee, NEC Meeting scheduled for Monday, as conflicting notices have emerged.

A simmering split within the leadership of the party came to the fore as a counter notice to the one issued by the Deputy National Chairman South, Taofeek Arapaja emerged from the Acting National Chairman, Iliya Damagum insisting that the scheduled NEC Meeting remains postponed and that what is expected to be held this Monday is an expanded National Caucus meeting.

Damagum in a statement said the move is not an affront to the 99th NEC decision but an avenue for explanation and review of issues to Party Members.

The faction led by the acting national chairman, Illiya Damagum insists on Anyanwu’s return and dismissing the proposed NEC meeting to an expanded national caucus meeting.

They argue that their decision to recall Anyanwu and convene an expanded caucus instead of the 100th NEC meeting is in line with the advice of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on the issues.

This group, which has some members of the National Working Committee, NWC, also has the backing of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Kingsley Chinda, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed and others.

This position has created confusion on what to expect from the party this Monday.
