There is widespread jubilation across Zamfara State and parts of the Northwest as notorious bandit commander, Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo has been confirmed dead following a decisive onslaught by the Shinkafi Volunteer Forces.

Danbokolo, a cousin to infamous kingpin Bello Turji reportedly succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during a fierce confrontation with the Shinkafi Volunteer Forces.

Security sources told AIT NEWS that at least 173 of his fighters were killed in what residents described as a “blistering surprise attack”, the deadliest blow to bandit networks in the region.

While the Department of State Services (DSS) is yet to confirm its role, sources hint at covert support from the intelligence agency.

In Kurya District and surrounding communities, scenes of jubilation have erupted.

Farmers and villagers are celebrating the end of an era of fear, extortion and deadly raids.

Danbokolo, often described as the true commander behind the terror machinery in the Northwest, is believed to have led operations while Turji acted as a mouthpiece.

Residents say Turji’s remaining loyalists are now in disarray, with reports that some are pleading for amnesty as military pressure mounts.

This marks the first major pushback by local volunteer forces against Turji’s stronghold since organized banditry gripped the region.

Locals say they now hope for a farming season free of extortion and fear — and are thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they call a timely and strategic intervention.

The fall of
Danbokolo may signal a turning point in the fight against banditry in the Northwest.
