Operatives of Shari’a Law Enforcers, (Hisba), in Bauchi State, have sealed up a shop belonging to one Aminu Abubakar, over alleged selling of stolen and dead chicken to Bauchi residents, at the Muda Lawan Market in Bauchi State.
The team of the operatives was led by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation, Mohammed Binni Abdulkadir, and the Commissioner for Hisba, Balarabe Isa.
In 2001, the Bauchi State Government enacted and implemented the provisions of Shari’a law, under Section 398 of the Bauchi State Laws, with some sections of the law prohibiting the sale, hiring and transportation of items contained in the law.
It is against this backdrop that this team from the Shari’a Commission and Religious Affairs Ministry sealed the shop of the accused, Aminu Abubakar, after an alleged reported case of the sale of stolen and dead chicken to Bauchi residents.
The Bauchi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation, Mohammed Binni, said the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, is saddened by the report, and has ordered investigations into the matter, as it can affect the health of the residents.
On his part, the Chairman of Muda Lawan Market, Bala Maikaji, has confirmed the incident, and urged the government to construct a befitting abattoir for slaughtering of animals within the market.
Efforts to speak with the accused person, Aminu Abubakar, were not successful, as of the time of filling this report.
In a related development, the operatives said they have confiscated over six million Naira worth of alcoholic drinks from Toro Local Government, in line with the provisions of their operations.
The Operatives warn Bauchi residents to adhere strictly to the law.
They say the culprits will soon be taken to court for prosecution.
